Staff Analysis of the Legislation

House Resolution 590 creates the House Study Committee on Georgia's Barriers to Access to Adequate Health Care. Committee members are charged to undertake a study of the needs, issues, and problems associated with Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) and Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder with Streptococcal infection (PANDAS) disorders. These disorders create the sudden onset of obsessive-compulsive disorder in children, causing previously healthy and emotionally-adjusted children to experience severe anxiety and emotional disturbances. The study committee, which will be abolished on December 1, 2019, is composed of eight members: five members of the House, one practicing psychiatrist, one practicing pediatrician, and one public health practitioner
